Untrainable

This installation Jasmine created for the art show 'Behind The Closed Doors' at the Safehouse 1, London 2025, seeks to explore the intersection of gender roles, domesticity, and rebellion. By reimagining the traditional Staffordshire ceramic dog—typically a symbol of loyalty, domestic order, and femininity—I challenge the societal expectation that women must conform to idealized domestic roles. This particular ceramic dog, however, is different: it is angry, unkempt, and untrainable, representing the women who resist being confined to traditional roles and who reject the notion that an unclean or imperfect home signifies failure. The work speaks to the complexity of modern womanhood, rejecting simplistic, one-dimensional portrayals of women as subservient caretakers of the home.
